About the Role
The Band 5 Staff Nurse will undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff within their management responsibility. They will communicate with patients and significant others with empathy and reassurance regarding assessment, care, and treatment, and maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records using appropriate documentation. Facilitating early discharge planning and making referrals to community services are essential parts of the role. The nurse will also ensure the safe custody and administration of drugs, supervise junior or unqualified staff, and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to promote good communication and patient care.
Key Responsibilities
– Undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies
– Communicate with patients and significant others regarding care and treatment
– Maintain accurate nursing records
– Facilitate early discharge planning
– Ensure safe custody and administration of drugs
– Supervise junior or unqualified staff
– Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
– Participate in the audit of the principles of the Essence of Care benchmarking process
– Ensure departmental coordinators are updated with clinical developments
– Implement safe working practices as required by the Health & Safety at Work Act
– Work with Lead and Senior Nurses, Bed Managers, Admissions, and Infection Control to ensure optimal bed utilization
